The beginning of each year at Mazapan School gives me a fresh opportunity to view the world through the eyes of the newest and youngest generation of our students, the First Graders.  I am also privileged to witness first hand the eagerness and excitement for learning about the world and the self exploration that each pre-adolescent, adolescent and teenage student brings to the educational arena. Being surrounded by their vitality, energy and excitement provides me with an up-close view of trends, interests and influencing factors that determine their behavior and shapes their way of thinking. Their enthusiasm, creativity and sense of belonging, ownership and pride, combined with the teachers’ dedication, optimism and commitment to excellence is what continues to make Mazapan School the academic jewel of the Western Caribbean.

As a community of learners concerned with the affective and social development of our students, this year we have embarked upon the exciting voyage of implementing the Character Counts program. With the Board’s unwavering support and encouragement, it was successfully launched in August and has been embraced enthusiastically by all stakeholders. The universal values of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship are woven into, and addressed, in the daily life and activities of Mazapan School.

Because I firmly believe that education is what remains after the students have forgotten what they were taught in the classrooms, academics will maintain its importance, hand in hand with character development, standing side by side as top priorities at this institution.

I invite you to take a walk along our tropical garden campus on a virtual tour our school.

Sincerely,

Martha Counsil
Superintendent
