Eighth Grade

My name is Dinorah Mejía de Suriano. I am the 8th Grade homeroom teacher and I teach English and Health. At the beginning of the school year, for Health class, the students worked on a project called “Influences in My Life”, which their parents enjoyed looking at during our “Open House”. They have also worked on two other projects: “Managing Stress”, for which each group surveyed sixth through twelfth grade, and “My Emotions”.

For English class we are studying slavery and we will watch Steven Spielbergs’s film “Amistad”. We will also be reading, Farewell to Manzanar, for the next couple of weeks. Eighth grade has already won first place for the Door Decorating Contest and second place in the Pep Rally for the Character Counts kick off. They are also in first place for class of the year.

I also teach Math, Science, and Social Studies in seventh grade. We are trying to learn Math and how it connects to our daily lives. In Science we are covering “From Bacteria to Plants”, and students have started working on their project for seed plants. For our Social Studies class we are studying the Middle East, from ancient to modern time.
