Language Arts
The many standards and benchmarks that are defined in our school’s
English language Arts curriculum can be summarized and encompassed in
the following, which can be considered the program’s main objectives:
A) To raise the level of students’ English
fluency (expressed through speaking, listening, reading and writing) in
order to eventually attain a mastery of the English language.
B) To adequately prepare students for the rigors of
college.
C) To help students prepare to take standardized
tests such as the ACT, the SAT and the TOEFL.
From the time they become freshmen to the day they graduate, students in
the High School English classes work in four areas on a daily basis:
- Literature: Study and analysis of
various works
- Reading: Study and analysis of
various texts in the English class textbook
- Grammar: Study and review of
grammatical concepts and rules
- Writing: Preparation of a variety
of texts
