The science program in grades 9-12 at Mazapan School is designed to teach students how to use the scientific method in problem solving, to give them experience using basic laboratory techniques, and to give them an introduction to the fields of biology, chemistry, and physics. Students are introduced to chemistry and physics in their study of physical science in the ninth grade, and then go on to study biology in the tenth grade, chemistry in the eleventh grade, and physics in the twelfth grade. All classes meet five days a week (with a double period on one of those days for laboratory investigations) for a total of six periods per week. A high school science fair is held every two years, and students are required to participate. Therefore, all students participate in the science fair at least twice in their high school careers.
